Okay, here are the goals I currently have:
So new goals, at the moment:
7 Thousand word blocks (Ideally 1000 words a day, but 2000 would count for 2 and 500 for nothing)
Weekly Goals:
7500 words written or edited
2 fiction or poetry submissions
1 story read out loud
5 hours revising (including rewriting)
5 hours on novel project
1 Spanish Language story, poem, or article read
Monthly Goals
2 revised stories, with less tolerance for shit flash pieces
1 short story rough draft (I will go over the number anyway and it's not meant to be the focus)
1 novel chapter (not a short story)
8 critiques
2 poems
2 blog posts
1 story, article, or poem translated from Spanish to English
1 novel read, at least, no excuses
1 submission I expect to be reviewed to a peer review site of worth
2 writing exercises
The goals that are currently working the least well are: 8 critiques, 2 submissions, both sets of hourly goals, and 2 revised stories.
Here are my deficits for the year:
0/197104
I can do this shit, I'm just not doing it.
Incidentally my 2012 shortfall was:
Words Written or Edited (0/110659)
Completed Short Story Rough Draft (0/11)
Stories Submitted (0/35)
Writing Exercise (0/5)
I don't think moving critiques to monthly helped anything. Nor the writing exercises, but I don't care as much about those. I'm not going to do the time goals anymore, but I am going to keep track of time in the little file where I do my wordcounts. I'm going to stop goalposting there and just observe for a bit.
I don't know about the blog posts. They get put out on the back burner- so do the poems- but the honest truth is I don't care that much about the blog.
Hmmmm.
Here are my deficits for the year:
0/197104
0/39 fiction or poetry submissions
0/25 story read out loud
0/71.75 hours revising
0/47.75 hours novel
0/9 spanish thing read
0/17 revised stories
0/25 story read out loud
0/71.75 hours revising
0/47.75 hours novel
0/9 spanish thing read
0/17 revised stories
0/4 short story rough draft (I will go over the number anyway and it's not meant to be the focus)
0/31 critiques
0/8 story, article, or poem translated from Spanish to English
0/9 story submitted for peer review
0/4 submission I expect to be reviewed to a peer review site of worth
0/12 writing exercises
The hourly one fucking disturbs me, and has been a lot of my problem. I'm not spending ten hours a week writing. Or even doing writing related stuff. If I had spent the deficit time SINCE OCTOBER when I started counting, just on the writing bits, I'd have a conservative 72,000 extra words on there- or more than a third of what I owe for the year.0/31 critiques
0/8 poems
0/4 blog posts
0/9 story submitted for peer review
0/4 submission I expect to be reviewed to a peer review site of worth
0/12 writing exercises

I will also keep a to-do list on the side, with dates to be aware of. Which means buying back my duotrope submission. May as well, right?
